Saturday was my Dad’s 77th birthday. It was a birthday that almost didn’t happen. It’s a long story but in a weird twist of fate, my Dad was violently thrown from a horse and almost bled to death. (I say weird twist of fate, because my Dad has probably been riding as long as he has been walking) Even though he has a long recovery ahead of him, he is going to be fine. My Dad has lived longer than a lot of people, I realize that. I am very blessed to have both of my parents alive and in good health. As a matter of fact, before my Dad’s accident it was hard to keep up with him, he always walks so fast. So I am not looking for a pity party here…. but his accident made me realize how precious life is and how in an instant, it can all be gone. I have been thinking a lot about what I want to do for the next chapter of my life, now that I have two in College and one, well because of drumline and band, it feels like we are empty nesters. I have taken classes and been working on different types of creative endeavors, every week feeling a bit more lost and unsure of what I want to do. Or if I am too old to be acting like I just got out of college.
But this accident has helped me see the light. I have also seen other signs that maybe I am not to old to work toward a new career. I love the show, Project RunWay. I saw a 55 year old guy that quit his corporate job to become a shoe designer and a good portion of the designers on the show, trying to make a name for themselves are in their 40’s. And then I saw this great quote by the Dalai Lama.
So, I am going to keep working toward making a name for myself with my photography and surface pattern design. Mostly live, what does that mean for you? Comment below and tell me what is important in your life. And today, I hope that you love, believe, do and mostly live!
CREATE EVERY DAY!
What type of creative things do you like to do? I have been working on a few different projects. But I am really excited about a Halloween project that I am working on. It is a BlackBird Design piece. There 10 small pieces that fit into a wooden box.
It is really going to be cute. I will post a picture when I complete it. I have also been doing some painting. Anyone out there paint? I haven’t painted in many years but it is very relaxing. I enjoy painting flowers the most. I like to live by the motto, Create Every Day. Whether it’s painting, cross stitch, creating patterns, photography, or cooking.
I hope that I have inspired you a little today, by encouraging you to create or to get up off the couch and do something fun. Enjoy your next birthday but more than ever… enjoy today! Jenn
